What is the Bible?
The name is derived from the Greek expression biblia (the books), which came into use in the early centuries of Christianity. It means "The Book", by way of eminence, and therefore well sets forth the sacred character of our inspired literature. The Bible, as the inspired revelation, contains the word of God. However, the Bible not only contains the word of God; it is the word of God. The primary author is the Holy Spirit, or, as it is commonly expressed, the human authors wrote under the influence of Divine inspiration.
Why do we need to study the Bible?
II Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” In other words, the Bible is an instruction manual for how we are to live in this world as we await our meeting with Lord Jesus Christ who will come back soon to take us home. As Jesus Christ is the Word (John 1:1) and the Truth (John 14:6) who sets us free (John 8:32) from our sins, we need to study the Word to drive out the lies of the Devil from our life and stand on the Truth. Thus, it is our sincere desire to do a verse by verse study of all 66 books of the Bible in full dependence on the Holy Spirit who is the Author of the Bible.
